RECENT UPDATES:

In a MousePlanet.com podcast earlier this year, Disney Vacation Club President Jim Lewis stated that an on-line reservation fature was in the works but provided few specifics.  The new issue of Disney Files Magazine sheds a bit more light on the project.

In his "From the Desk of Jim Lewis" feature, Lewis again reiterates that members will eventually be able to make their reservations via the Internet.  Lewis' article states that "...we hope to launch an online-reservation system by early next year."

If Lewis has his way, it appears DVC members will be able to book their trips via the Internet within the next 12 months.

DVCMember.com does currently accept member reservation requests but the feature is not a realtime reservation system.  Submissions are routed to Member Services Cast Members for manual processing which can take up to 3 business days.

So do people think this will make reservations harder to get or will it not make any difference? I live in Eastern time so I'm tempted to go online the minute reservations open, be it midnight or 9 AM @ 11 months then 7 when applicable...

I doubt it would make too much difference. If you book 11 months out, there doesn't seem to be any problem now (at least I've never had a problem.) Booking at 7 months is a different issue depending on the time of year and resort you want. I just don't really trust Disney's online systems too much.

I think this may be a good thing for some, but I enjoy talking with the cast member at member services. They are always so nice and helpful when you new and not sure how things work. I hope Disney doesn't loose site of the important things like the personal touch.
