Grand Floridian work causes monorail disruption

WDW Transportation News

Guests visiting Walt Disney World in the coming weeks will find the Magic Kingdom-area monorails running on a reduced schedule due to construction work on the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort.

Website StitchKingdom.com confirms that monorail service to the Magic Kingdom will face daily disruptions from Friday March 2 through Saturday March 17, 2012.  During this period all monorail service will be suspended between the hours of 11:30am and 6:00pm.

Suspension of monorail service is necessitated by construction work on the forthcoming Disney Vacation Club villas adjacent to the Grand Floridian resort.  Disney also claims that the downtime will be used to perform "planned maintenance" on the monorail infrastructure.

This information originated with the Cast Member news portal used to disseminate information to Walt Disney World employees.

During the closure additional buses and water transportation will be used to accommodate guests traveling to and from the Magic Kingdom, as well as those staying in Magic Kingdom area resorts normally serviced by the monorail.
