The new version of Walt Disney World's MagicBand will be available for purchase beginning July 27, arriving on ShopDisney at 10:00am eastern.
Disney's long-awaited MagicBand+ will finally make its debut on July 27. This third version of the wearable tech brings new interactive features in the Disney theme parks, along with a rechargable battery. Among the new features are a virtual bounty hunter game within Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, interactions with the 50th anniversary character statues and an interface with the theme parks' nighttime fireworks displays.
MagicBand+ will also perform all of the same functions as earlier versions including Disney hotel room entry, mobile payments, theme park entry, Lightning Lane access, link to Disney's PhotoPass and more.
Hotel guests will be able to purchase MagicBand+ prior to their arrival by visiting the My Disney Experience website. Make sure your upcoming hotel reservation is linked, and look under the "My MagicBands and Cards" menu item for pre-order information.
Sales are expected to begin on ShopDisney.com at 10:00am eastern on July 27. At least 25 styles are planned with prices that begin at $34.95 each. It is not known how many of these styles will be available for pre-arrival purchase or via ShopDisney, or how long supplies may last.
Guests may continue to use older MagicBands for most features. The RFID-based technology allows bands to continue to function indefinitely for most tap-based functions.
Guests may install the MagicMobile features on their smartphone or Apple Watch to replicate many of the MagicBand features. Plastic "Key to the World" cards are also available upon request at resort from desks.
