The website of architectural firm George Coon Inc. reveals some interesting details about a possible future Disney Vacation Club resort project.
According to a promotional brochure posted to the site in PDF format, the firm is designing a "California Coast Resort" for eventual construction at Walt Disney World in Florida. The design integrates elements from famous California landmarks including Venice Beach, Casa del Mar, Montage, the Balboa Pavilion, Laguna Hills, Newport Beach, and Santa Barbara.
The project size is listed at 1,208 units, which would make this the largest Disney Vacation Club resort by a wide margin. Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is currently the largest resort with 828 units spread over 18 buildings, plus 60 Treehouse Villas.
Estimated design completion is 2012.
Among Coon's past projects is Disney's Vacation Club and Resort at Eagle Pines. This DVC property was famously announced in late 2001 only to have construction halted a few short weeks later. The intended site has since been utilized for the Four Seasons Resort / Golden Oak housing development.
