A rumor has emerged indicating that a future Disney Vacation Club project at Walt Disney World has been cancelled.
Reflections - A Disney Lakeside Lodge (concept)
According to posts on the WDWMagic.com forums, Reflections - a Disney Lakeside Lodge has been cancelled in the wake of the COVID-19 travel shakeup.
A post from user "Seanual757" reads "We received word project 89 is cancelled crews have been seen onsite removing the rebar and concrete from this project." User "marni1871", himself often a source of reliable information, replied "Imagine that as well!"
Project 89 is the internal designation for Reflections.
In the 3 months since COVID-19 emerged as a global threat, Disney has not commented on the future of Reflections. The building was poised to follow Disney's Riviera Resort as the next Disney Vacation Club loctation at Walt Disney World. Plans called for 900 total hotel rooms and DVC villas.
Back in April we speculated on the future of Reflections. It would not be the first DVC location to be disrupted by economic factors.
Reflections is actually the second project planned for the former River Country waterpark site.
Disney Vacation Club's sales unit has been shuttered since mid-March. Point sales have slowed to a crawl, with the only new deeds recorded being purchases which were initiated prior to the shutdown. Reflections was scheduled to come online in 2022, about 3 years after Riviera's debut.
In recent years, DVC has deliberately attempted to line-up its resort projects with as little overlap as possible. Economic uncertainty could extend the Riviera sales window dramatically, leaving DVC will little need for a new Walt Disney World-based until 2023 or beyond.
There have been recent indicators that DVC plans to move forward with new units at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. Points are also still available at Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas.
Additional details regarding the future of Reflections will be shared when they are available.
