Grand Californian Reopening Delayed...Again

The latest stay-at-home order issued by California officials has prompted another delay in the Disney Vacation Club resort reopening.

Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel

Today DVC issued a statement confirming that the reopening of the Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa has been delayed indefinitely. The latest COVID-19 guidelines issued by the State of California leave Orange County subject to a mandatory stay-at-home order effective 12:59pm on December 5.

The order takes effect as communities fall below 15% ICU availability. Lockdown will last a minimum of three weeks, after which it may be lifted if trends indicate that ICU occupancy will rise above the threshold.

Earlier this summer, Disney announced a July 23 reopening for the Grand Californian. That plan was later scrapped when California officials refused to provide guidance for the theme parks. In November, DVC announced that the villas would reopen on December 6 while all hotel rooms and theme parks were set to remain closed.

In light of the uncertainty, no new reopening projection has been issued.

The Grand Californian is the last Disney Vacation Club resort to remain closed. Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas began welcoming guests on November 1, while the other locations all resumed operations back in June.

The complete statement from Disney is as follows:

Dear DVC Member,

On December 3, the State of California announced new regional stay at home guidelines. As a result, we’re delaying the reopening of The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa while we evaluate the guidance. Regrettably, your upcoming reservation has been cancelled.

We apologize for the inconvenience. As we anticipate high call volume in the days ahead, we encourage you to use the Disney Vacation Club website for general information. If you would like to book a new Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation or modify an existing reservation, you may do so through the Member Online Booking Tool.

While we know this news is disappointing, we look forward to when we can welcome you back home and make magical memories together once more.

Sincerely,

Disney Vacation Club
