Monthly Sales Update: Sales jump in January

Financial News & Pricing

Following slow sales in December, Disney Vacation Club point sales rebounded in January 2014, with 202,117 points sold, an increase of 70.4% over the previous month. Sales for the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa accounted for much of this improvement. Sales for this resort increased from 68,540 points in December '13 to 122,318 points in January '14.

It is not uncommon for sales to fluctuate up or down by more than 25% from one month to the next. In the last 42 months, it has happened 16 times. Nevertheless, an increase of 70.4% is highly unusual. One possible explanation for this large increase might be that in December '13, Disney Vacation Development or the Orange County Comptroller may have delayed filing or recording deeds due to the end-of-year holidays. Thus, December '13 may have been artificially low, thereby inflating the numbers for January '14.

DVC Direct Sales January 2014

Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa -- With 122,318 points sold in January '14, the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian has now sold 34.2% of its 2.5 million points. So far, the April Use Year is the most common Use Year, accounting for 37% of the points sold for this resort.

Disney Vacation Development has declared 75.8% of the Grand Floridian for the DVC inventory. This means that DVC members can book about three-fourths of the resort using points on any given Use Day. The remaining one-fourth of the resort is the exclusive property of Disney for it to use as it wants.

In addition to offering traditional Disney Vacation Club points , the Grand Floridian also offers Fixed Weeks. About 7.9% of the points and 200 of the deeds sold through January 2014 have been for Fixed Weeks. The last six weeks of the calendar year account for 95 of the 200 the Fixed Week deeds sold so far. Week #49, which starts on December 7, 2014, is the most popular week with 19 Fixed Week deeds sold.

In January, Disney Vacation Development reacquired a Fixed Week deed containing 448 points. To date, two Grand Floridian deeds containing 777 points have been reacquired.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas -- In January '14, Disney Vacation Club announced on its Facebook page that Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas was officially sold out. Nevertheless, Disney Vacation Development still sold 61,041 points for this resort in January '14.

Since sales began in February 2007 for Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, Disney Vacation Development has sold 7,002,889 of the resort's 7.4 million points. Since it cannot sell more than 98% of Animal Kingdom Villas' total points to the general public, Disney Vacation Development has about 249,376 points that it can still sell.

The sales data includes all eight DVC resorts at Walt Disney World, as well as Disney's Vero Beach Resort and Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. Point sales data is not available for the Villas at Disney's Grand California Hotel or for Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas. The data is compiled from deeds filed by Disney Vacation Development and recorded with the Orange County (FL) Comptroller, the Indian River County (FL) Clerk of Court, and the Beaufort County (SC) Register of Deeds.
