Reminder that this Friday, August 31st is the final day to get double Developer’s Points with a DVC purchase or add-on. DVC has not announced and ending date for the promotion, but inside sources report that they will quietly pull the plug after 8/31. No word on what discount programs may begin on 9/1.
DVC is now offering double Developer’s Points as an incentive for purchasing points at the Animal Kingdom Villas. Those buying 100 or more points can opt to receive either an $8 per point discount or 2x their purchase amount in Developer’s Points (i.e. buy 160 AKV points and receive a one-time allocation of 320 Developer’s Points.) The Developer’s Points must be used within 7 months of the purchase.
This is the final week for current DVC members to add additional points before the prices increase. Current prices for both Saratoga Springs and the Animal Kingdom Villas are $101 per point, with discounts of $10 at SSR and $8 at AKV available for purchases over 50 and 100 points, respectively. On June 4th the base price increases to $104 per point. There has been no official word on how the price increase may impact promotional discounts.
Florida legislators are considering a plan which would eliminate property taxes for all primary residences in favor of a 2.5% increase in state sales tax. Sadly timeshares and other vacation homes are excluded from the proposed plan. If adopted, DVC members would continue to pay property taxes on their ownership, and be subject to 8.5% sales tax on purchases made at Walt Disney World.
In an attempt to ease the tax burden on residents, Florida recently passed a law requiring municipalities to cut 3-9% of their property tax collections. However, the law includes a provision which allows a municipality to avoid the tax cut with the approval of 2/3 of its governing body.
