Skip the Standard MagicBand to Save on Character Designs

WDW Theme Park News

Walt Disney World guests and Annual Passholders can soon forego the standard solid color MagicBands and receive a discount on more elaborate custom designs.

Disney MagicBands

Since the launch of Disney's MagicBand program in 2013, guests staying at Walt Disney World resorts along with Annual Passholders could each receive a free band in one of 8 solid colors. For those who prefer a more unique experience, a wide variety of themed MagicBands are available for purchase in the Disney theme parks and resorts and the ShopDisney.com website.

Disney will soon launch a program allowing these guests to skip the solid color MagicBand, instead receiving a discount off the price of more appealing alternatives.

More than 30 themed bands will be available to choose from in this new program. Guests choosing to forego the standard solid color band will receive a credit of $14.99 toward the retail cost of an alternative band. The net price for most bands--including the credit--is expected to be around $10.00.

Alternative bands showcased in a Disney preview video include characters like Ariel from "The Little Mermaid" and Elsa from "Frozen", Disney villains, Emojis and Star Wars characters like Darth Vader and BB8.

Customization options will be available via the MyDisneyExperience app and website. US residents ordering their bands 11 or more days prior to arrival will have them shipped to their homes. Character bands can also be customized with guest names if ordered at least 6 days before arrival.

The solid color MagicBands will remain a free option for all passholders and WDW resort guests including Disney Vacation Club members.
