Disney Vacation Club has not revealed a timeline for the anticipated guest room refurbishment work at Disney's BoardWalk Villas but current room availability is pointing toward the fall of 2023.
Disney has made no secret of the fact that Disney's BoardWalk Inn & Villas will be undergoing a number of updates in the coming months. One of those projects includes a full renovation of the Disney Vacation Club villa rooms which have not been refurbished since a small-scale refresh back in 2016.
Availability of DVC rooms suggests that a large portion of the BoardWalk Villas will be updated beginning in September 2023. The DVC member booking website currently shows that all BoardWalk View rooms are unavailablity beginning on September 9, 2023. This includes all BoardWalk View One Bedroom villas as illustrated below. One Bedroom villas tend to be the slowest DVC room size to book. In the screen shot, the One Bedroom BoardWalk View rooms are unavailable from September 9 through at least September 17, the latest date members can currently book.
BoardWalk Deluxe Studio, Two Bedroom and Three Bedroom Grand Villas reflect an idential lack of availabllity. Other views including the Pool / Garden View and the economical Standard View have rooms available for these dates.
It is unusual for so many rooms to be removed from service at one time, suggesting the possibility of exterior work on the BoardWalk itself necessitating the large scale closure. Disney crews typically renovate rooms in small blocks, closing off wings of a resort or individual floors while rooms are updated. BoardWalk View accommodations represented here make up about 1/4 of the 532 individual rooms which make up Disney's BoardWalk Villas.
Elsewhere at the resort, gift shop Dundy's Sundries has closed to make way for a lobby coffee shop and the former ESPN Club location is being converted to The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers.
Refurbishment plans are prone to change, so there is a possibility that availablity for BoardWalk View villas will be freed-up at some later date. Work is currently under way to update rooms in Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge. This project, which has been delayed by more than 2 years from its anticipated 2020 start, is now expected to wrap-up in the spring of 2023.
