As expected, the Anaheim Planning Commission offered its approval on a project which would add 350 Disney Vacation Club units to Disneyland Resort.
On July 20, the Anaheim (CA) Planning Commission voted 7-0 to endorse the proposed DVC addition to the grounds of Disneyland Hotel. The project features a 12 story tower with 350 timeshare villas, a new pool, interactive play area, Community Hall, fitness center and other amenities. The building would be located on the southwest corner of the hotel property, adjacent to the current Frontier Tower.
This is the latest step in a lengthy approval process which has included focus groups and virtual town halls with nearby residents, traffic studies and extensive discussions with area city planners.
Documents released last week showcase the proposed grounds of the hotel, room layouts and more.
The project moves on to Anaheim City Council for final approval. Published timelines indicate a completion target in the year 2023. However, the ongoing influence of COVID-19 has impacted many of Disney's theme park-related projects. Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure was slated to open on July 18, 2020. However the two California parks have been closed for more than 4 months with no reopening date currently on the radar.
Downtown Disney shopping district reopened on July 9. Disney officials had eyed a July 17, 2020 reopening for the theme parks. However, that date was later abandoned when state and local officials refused to provide updated operating guidelines.
California's sole Disney Vacation Club presence remains the Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Representing less than 2% of all DVC villas, Grand Californian is a difficult destination to secure. The addition of 350 new villas to the Disneyland Resort is sure to prompt interest from both current and new DVC members.
