Recently the South Florida Water Management District authorized construction work on the area surround self-parking lots for the two Disney resorts. Disney aims to combine self parking at the Grand Floridian nearest the Disney Vacation Club villas, the lot for Disney's Wedding Pavilion and the recently-opened lot adjacent to Polynesian's Island Tower.

The plan will create additional parking capacity by removing barriers between what are now three separate and distinct lots. A covered walkway will also be added to shelter foot traffic along a portion of the route.

The total project area encompasses about 3.6 acres between Grand Floridian, Polynesian and the Wedding Pavilion

South Florida Water Management District oversees stormwater management systems and related infrastructure throughout Disney property. Gaining approval from this organization is typically one of the first steps in moving forward with any significant construction project on Walt Disney World property.
