According to a post in the Tikiman's Unofficial Polynesian Resort Pages Facebook group, Disney has begun exterior renovations to the resort's watertop bungalows. The bungalows were added in 2015 when approximately 360 hotel rooms were also converted to DVC villas. Twenty bungalows line the shores of the Seven Seas Lagoon, offering a front row view of the Magic Kingdom.
Several of the bungalows are currently covered by scaffolding as crews paint and update the villa exteriors. The bungalow interiors were last updated in the fall of 2021 during a soft goods refurbishment that included the addition of pull-down murphy beds. The rooms sleep up to 9 gusts, featuring two bedrooms, a full kitchen and a private plunge pool on the deck.
Crews have been spotted updating the resort pathways, landscaping and painting several of the existing longhouses. Disney recently announced that renovations will continue throughout the grounds of the Polynesian resort into 2026.
In just over 3 months, the new Island Tower is scheduled to open as an expansion to the Polynesian resort. The building will add more than 260 new rooms, including 2-person Duo Studios, One Bedroom and Two Bedroom villas.
